ADVOCACY AND COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR (PART TIME) FOR HUMANIST

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW:

The Humanist Association of Ireland (HAI) is a member-led
organisation, which advocates for the equal treatment of people of no
religion by the State, the abolition of religious privileges, and the
separation of Church and State.

The HAI is a registered charity, and we aspire to a balanced, secular
society. Our principal object under our constitution is to advance
education and in particular the study of humanism and dissemination of
knowledge of its principles.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Advocacy and Communications Coordinator will play a key role in
the HAI and will report directly to the CEO. The successful candidate
will be responsible for raising the profile of the HAI, shaping and
delivering advocacy and education programmes within the HAI, producing
high quality submissions, developing and maintaining strong volunteer
engagement, and assisting the HAI to deliver on its overall strategic
goals.

The Advocacy and Communications Coordinator will manage a variety of
member and volunteer engagement initiatives, and will work on special
projects, such as the Census **Apply on the website** campaign. The
role holder will also assist in the development of a social media
strategy, as well as producing and publishing social media content on
an ongoing basis.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Assist the CEO in meeting the key advocacy and education goals of
the HAI.
* Lead the HAI Advocacy and Education Working Group, arranging and
chairing all meetings, supervising and coordinating all volunteer
activities within this working group and other connected groups, and
minuting and recording the outcomes of meetings.
* Develop communication materials for HAI advocacy, outreach and
civic awareness initiatives, including briefing materials and press
releases, in coordination with the CEO.
* Lead the creation and implementation of a Schools Education
Programme for the HAI, and engage with third-level institutions, to
promote Humanism. Use PR and media opportunities to target our message
to specific groups such as teachers, adult educators, etc.
* Prepare policy statements, papers, submissions and reports in the
area of secularism and any matters that generally impact the human
rights of the non-religious in Ireland.

* Play a lead role in managing HAI?s digital communications,
including writing blog posts, creating updated content for HAI
policy/advocacy webpages, and drafting responses to member and public
inquiries on emerging issues.

* Work with the CEO to develop and implement a social media strategy,
to ensure that opportunities around engagement, communication, and
media are maximised.
* Coordinate all HAI communications on social media platforms such
as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Liaise with all relevant HAI
groups to produce and publish regular and ongoing social media
coverage of HAI events, education, advocacy and our ceremonies
service.
* Carry out research on an ongoing basis in order to source news
items of interest for publishing on our website and social media. This
should include but not be limited to the websites and newsletters of
Humanists International and other Humanist organisations, as well as
seeking out relevant newsworthy items from Ireland.
* Use social media to build awareness about the HAI, with the aim of
attracting new members and visitors to our sites and increase
attendance at our monthly events.

* Reporting: provide regular progress updates to the CEO and ensure
that all activity is recorded.
* Undertake any additional responsibilities in line with the key
objectives of the role as and when they arise, or as requested by the
CEO.

THE PERSON WILL HAVE

* A third level qualification in communications, advocacy or law, OR
relevant work experience in the effective delivery of advocacy
campaigns or experience in research, report and position paper
writing.
* Minimum of 2 years working in a membership, campaigning or
voluntary organisation, with experience of working on campaigns
desirable.
* Experience of motivating others to support a cause.
* Passion for social media and proficiency with major social media
platforms and social media management tools
* Ability to understand historical, current, and future trends in
the digital content and social media space
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Strong project management skills
* Ability to collaborate with a variety of teams, as well as being
able to work on own initiative and consult where appropriate
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
with other stakeholders and key influencers, with the ability to build
alliances and networks to promote the HAI and its goals.
* Experience of facilitating and presenting information to groups
* Proficient in MS Office

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The position will be for an initial period of one year, with
performance reviews at 6 monthly intervals. Subject to satisfactory
performance and funding, the post may be continued on a one year
rolling contract thereafter.

The position is part-time (**Apply on the website** hours per week)
and will involve some evening and weekend working hours. The position
will be home-based, and the actual hours worked each week will be
flexible by agreement.
